Dhaka, September 15 – Bangladesh women’s football team captain Afeida Khandaker has been honoured with the Youth Volunteer Award 2025, receiving the recognition from Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus at a ceremony on Monday, The Daily Times of Bangladesh said.

The event, organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, took place at the Shapla Hall of the Chief Adviser’s Office. A total of 12 young achievers were celebrated across five different categories. In the sports and arts and culture section, the awardees included Afeida Khandaker and Uchai Mong Marma, known as Dhungri Headman, from Bandarban, the Daily Times said.

Afeida, who plays as a centre-back and leads the national women’s side, has been pivotal in Bangladesh’s recent success on the field. Under her captaincy, the team lifted the SAFF Championship trophy and secured qualification for the Asian Cup.

Following the ceremony, Afeida shared her thoughts on social media. “Today’s achievement is an unforgettable moment for me. I am very proud and grateful to have received this award, the Youth Volunteer Award, from the Chief Adviser, Dr Muhammad Yunus,” she wrote.

She dedicated the honour to her family, friends, and supporters nationwide. “It would not be possible without the prayers and love of my family, friends, and all well-wishers around the nation. Special thanks to the Youth and Sports Ministry for ensuring the credits of volunteers,” she said.

The skipper also stressed the wider significance of such recognition. “This award is not only mine, this one is for those who dream of the revolution for society and work hard every single day,” Afeida added, noting that the recognition will inspire young people to contribute further to society and the nation.
