Corrections Policy

Corrections Policy

Last Updated: September 13, 2025

Commitment to Accuracy

  • Every article undergoes fact-checking before publication.
  • Accuracy is prioritized over speed; breaking news must be correct, not just fast.

Types of Errors

  • Factual errors: incorrect names, dates, figures, or quotes.
  • Attribution errors: misidentifying a source or misquoting.
  • Context errors: omitting key information that changes interpretation.
  • Technical errors: typos, broken links, formatting issues.

Correction Procedure

When an error is discovered:

1) Verification – Editors confirm the mistake and gather correct information.

2) Correction – The article is updated with accurate information.

3) Transparency – A correction note explains the change.

4) Timestamp – Major updates include “Corrected/Updated on [Date/Time].”

Placement of Corrections

  • Within the article for minor factual fixes (note at the bottom).
  • Prominent correction box at the top for significant errors.
  • Social media updates if the error was widely shared.

Distinguishing Corrections from Updates

  • Corrections fix factual mistakes.
  • Updates add new details to an evolving story.
  • Clarifications improve context without changing original facts.

  • Reporters acknowledge errors and assist in corrections.
  • Editors ensure corrections are handled fairly and promptly.
  • Repeated errors may result in internal review and retraining.

Archiving and Transparency

  • Original versions of corrected articles are archived internally.
  • We do not quietly delete articles except in extraordinary cases.
  • Readers should see when and how a story was corrected.

Serious Errors

  • Significant misreporting may require a separate correction or apology.
  • Legal consultation may be sought where necessary.
