Washington ,September  23 – US President Donald Trump has been graded on a handful of his top policies since he hit his eight-month mark in office.

A new Washington Post/Ipsos poll found that over half of Americans — 53% — oppose Trump’s actions since he returned to the White House in January, while 41% support them. The survey also asked his supporters and critics to rank the best and worst things that he has sought to accomplish so far in his second term.

Among his base, immigration emerged as the president’s most popular issue, with 55% of Trump supporters naming it as what they like the most about his presidency. No other topic came close, with the poll recording 7% for government cuts and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), 5% for international relations, 5% for his personality and conduct, and 4% for tariffs. Twenty-five percent of respondents also mentioned other issues with even lower support.

However, some of his supporters expressed reservations in the administration’s handling of deportations, according to The Washington Post, as Trump looks to increasingly crack down on illegal immigration. But overall, favorability for the president’s immigration efforts has increased from the 39% documented in February.

Meanwhile, critics are more split on their least favorite actions of Trump. Immigration also topped all issues, with 20% of respondents saying it is the worst thing the president has done since taking office. Tariffs trailed with 13%, followed by destroying democracy and the Constitution at 9%, everything at 9%, Trump’s personal conduct and the Jeffrey Epstein saga at 7%, government cuts and DOGE at 7%, and the treatment of minority groups and dividing the country at 7%.

Respondents who are critical of the president are also around twice as likely to say that Trump’s actions on immigration and tariffs are worse now compared to February.

The poll was conducted from Sept. 11-15 among 2,513 U.S. adults. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
