Colombo, February 21 (Daily News): The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) have commenced conducting investigations by interrogating the two suspects arrested in connection with the murder by shooting of underworld kingpin Ganemulla Sanjeewa inside the Hulftsdorp Chief Magistrate’s Court Complex on Wednesday.
A Negombo Police Station constable who is suspected to have maintained phone contacts with the woman suspect involved in the murder of Ganemulla Sanjeewa has been arrested yesterday evening making it the third suspect arrested in the ongoing case.
The CCD informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday (20) that the main suspect and the arrested driver of the van that the shooter was travelling in after the shooting incident of Ganemulla Sanjeewa, who are in the custody of the CCD, will be detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) and investigations will be conducted.
Police Media said that the driver of the van Mahesh Sampath Priyadarshana, (44) a resident of Moragahahena area that helped the main suspect in the Ganemulla Sanjeewa murder escape was arrested and the van was seized.
Investigations conducted on the main suspect Samindu Dilshan Piyumanga Kandanaarachchi have uncovered that the shooting death of Ganemulla Sanjeewa was carried out for a contract of Rs. 15 million on the instructions of Manduni Pathmasiri Perera alias “Kehelbaddara Padme”, an organised criminal and drug trafficker hiding in Dubai who was the main rival of Ganemulla Sanjeewa. However, the main suspect had received only Rs. 200,000 before the shooting. The main suspect and the woman who assisted him had arrived at the Court premises from a hotel in Colombo. The driver of the van was also contracted for the killing by Kehelbaddara Padme.
The main suspect has been involved in carrying out about six murders before the shooting incident of Ganemulla Sanjeewa and was also the shooter in the double murder in the Watarappola area in Dehiwala recently. The main suspect, while having several different identity cards prepared by him used on several occasions, had used an identity card that claims him to be a lawyer which has been used for the shooting inside the Court Complex. It has been revealed that the wanted woman suspect by the police identified as “Sewwandi Weerasinghe” had undertaken the local plans for the murder of Ganemulla Sanjeewa.
