Colombo, April 11 (Daily News) – The temporary suspension on recruiting Sri Lankan workers for agricultural jobs in Israel has been lifted, with the latest batch of workers selected to depart later this month.

Officials from Israel’s Ministry of Agriculture and the Population and Immigration Authority (PIBA) recently visited Sri Lanka and selected 95 qualified candidates through physical fitness and other assessments. Air tickets were officially presented to 12 of these workers during a ceremony held at the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau on April 10, under the patronage of Bureau Chairman Kosala Wickramasinghe.

This group is scheduled to depart for Israel on April 20. It marks the third group of workers selected by Israeli representatives, following two earlier deployments.

Addressing the new recruits, Chairman Wickramasinghe emphasized that these job opportunities were restored after extensive discussions with Israeli authorities. He reminded the workers that they serve as unofficial ambassadors of Sri Lanka and bear the responsibility of upholding the standards that made this opportunity possible. He also advised them to invest their earnings wisely for long-term prosperity, assuring them of the Bureau’s full support throughout their employment abroad.
