Dhaka, February 25 (The Daily Star) – The July uprising leader confirmed to The Daily Star this afternoon that he has left the interim government.

In a letter addressed to the Honorable Chief Adviser, Nahid expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to serve on the Advisory Council and reiterated his commitment to building a “developed Bangladesh, free from discrimination, hunger, and poverty.”

Nahid, who took the oath of office on August 8 last year, acknowledged the critical role of the interim government in responding to the calls of students and the public following the July Uprising, which left many dead and injured.

Despite the challenges faced, he emphasised his constant efforts to fulfill his duties under the leadership of the chief adviser.

However, in his resignation letter, Nahid cited the necessity of being with the students and the public in the current situation.

“In the current context, I feel that I should be present among the students and the public in the larger interest of the country and the nation”, Nahid said in his resignation letter addressed to the chief adviser.

Therefore, I consider it appropriate to resign from my duties, he said.

“Under the circumstances, I request you to accept my resignation and relieve me of my duties as Adviser to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.”

Nahid’s resignation letter also paid tribute to the sacrifices made during the July uprising, underscoring his deep respect for the people who sacrificed their lives and the injured.

Insiders earlier confirmed The Daily Star that Nahid will join the new political party as its convener.

Mainly consisting of July uprising activists are set to launch their political party on February 28 at a grand rally in Manik Miah Avenue in Dhaka.
