Male, March 9 (Adhadhu) – Maldives Attorney General Ahmed Usham personally gave an MVR 1000 Bank of Maldives (BML) gift card to each employee of his department., employees said.
“It was a personal gift from the AG. He gave each employee a gift card of MVR 1,000,” an employee said.
There are more than 90 employees at the AG office. This means he distributed more than MVR 90,000.
Usham has been facing criticism for leading President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s plan to alter the bench of the Supreme Court.
He was among the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) members who requested an emergency meeting to suspend three justices.
On Thursday, Usham resigned from the disciplinary committee after suspended Justice Dr. Azmiralda Zahir expressed concern.
Suspended Justice Husnu Suood, who resigned last week, had also accused him of intimidating judges to conclude a constitutional case in favour of Muizzu.
JSC said Azmiralda, Suood and Justice Mahaz Ali were suspended due to a criminal investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
